MAXINE E. SPITLER FOUNDATION AWARD RECIPIENTS FOR JASPER AND LAWRENCE COUNTIES

(NEWTON/LAWRENCEVILLE) The Maxine E. Spitler Foundation has awarded fourteen (14) local organizations with grant funds to provide activities for youth or sponsor projects that care for domestic and wild animals. With nearly $32,000 given out to the various groups.

Here’s the breakdown of the $20,549.27 distributed to nine applicants in Jasper County :

  • $6,160 to St. Thomas School to buy 22 Chromebooks for 5th-8th grade use
  • $4,140 to Jasper County Boys & Girls Park to buy two 13 foot Mound Softball Mats
  • $2,305 to Jasper County Junior High Music Boosters to buy a Bass Clarinet instrument
  • $2,225 to Newton Community High School Theater Department to buy on stage lighting
  • $2,000 to Jasper County READ Program to buy reading books for countywide schools
  • $1,000 to Jasper County ERBA Office to help fund it’s Food Pantry for low-income children
  • $993.39 to Jasper County Farm Bureau to buy items for its Ag In the Classroom Program
  • $925 to the Sunrise Youth Soccer Program to replace an equipment shed entrance door
  • $800 to Newton Elementary School Strong Girls/Boys Program for lesson materials & more

Here’s the breakdown of the $11,443 distributed to five applicants in Lawrence County :

  • $4,577 to Lawrence County Humane Society for its “spay & neuter” program and 7 fans
  • $2,522 to Red Hill Junior/Senior High School Music Department to buy audio equipment
  • $1,899 to Red Hill Sumner Attendance Center P.E. Department to buy activity equipment
  • $1,293 to Lawrence County Arts Council for Kids Theater Week t-shirt costs
  • $1,153 to Parkview Junior High School to buy accessible PE equipment for all ages
