MONDAY WEATHER DISCUSSION (03/17/2025)

(OLNEY/NEWTON) After some severe weather, strong winds, and some rain over this past weekend, followed by much cooler air on tap yesterday, we’ll warm back up on this Monday with more rain in the forecast. Our high temperatures will be nearly 20 degrees higher on this St. Patrick’s Day 2025 compared to yesterday, plus we’ll have plenty of sunshine today. We’ll have much of the same tomorrow with warmer air returning, all ahead of our next chance of rain, moving in by Wednesday afternoon. But we’re back to dry conditions for Thursday and Friday to wrap up the work week and maybe more rain chances for the weekend. Listen for updates and monitor a NOAA Weather Alert Radio for forecast details.

(LINCOLN) The National Weather Service has issued a preliminary report concerning the storms that rolled through our downstate area this past weekend. With storm survey crews out since late Saturday night, the National Weather Service reports several severe storms rolled across the region along and south of the Interstate 70 corridor, with winds in excess of 50 to 70 miles-per-hour and at least three tornadoes between midnight and 3:00 Saturday morning. There was one EF-2 tornado that started south of Neoga and ended a couple miles south of the Charleston/Mattoon Airport. The two EF-1 tornadoes, one that was short and located roughly 3 miles north of Mattoon, and the other in the Paris area. Much further south, an EF-2 tornado hit near Vienna, followed by an EFx tornado that moved through Oakland City, Indiana. At this point, no injuries have been reported, but a lot of damage, plus some power outages. The NWS continues it’s storm survey the rest of this week.
