NEW LAWYERS / GRANT FUNDS / SPECIAL MEETING

(MT. VERNON) Justice David K. Overstreet of the Illinois Supreme Court will administer the attorney’s oath to twelve (12) new lawyers today in the Fifth Judicial District, starting at 2:00 at the Cedarhurst Center for the Arts on Richview Road in Mt. Vernon. The group is among 279 individuals who will be sworn in and admitted to the practice of law in Illinois during bar admission ceremonies held in the state’s five Supreme Court judicial districts. Today’s other ceremonies will be held in Springfield, Joliet, Elgin, and Chicago. The Fifth Judicial District is composed of the 48 southern-most counties in Illinois, including Richland, Jasper, and others.

(NEWTON) Grant applications for the Maxine E. Spitler Foundation are now being accepted through the end of this month. The Foundation benefits youth and youth organizations, and is also for the protection and care of animals, however awards are limited to those in Jasper and Lawrence Counties. To get the most recently revised application forms, contact the Weber and Company, Inc. Office in Newton, at 604 West Jourdan Street, by mail at P.O. Box 305, Newton, or by calling at 618-783-3447. While the submission deadline of May 31st, 2026, falls this year on a Sunday, all completed forms must be dropped off at the Weber and Company Office by Friday, May 29th, 2026, since the office is closed on weekends. Completed application forms can also be returned by mail, but they must be postmarked by May 31st, 2026.

(OLNEY) The Richland County School Board of Education has called a Special Meeting for tomorrow evening, starting at 5:00, at Richland County High School in Olney. The only agenda item is discuss and possibly approve a change order with GeoSurfaces for the tennis courts at the new Athletic Complex at RCHS. The meeting is open to the public and will be streamed online.
