(WASHINGTON, D.C.) Illinois Congresswoman Mary Miller voted yesterday in our nation’s capital to pass the Save America Act, legislation that secures federal elections by ensuring that only American citizens vote in American elections. One of the main components of the bill is the requirement for voters to provide proof of identity by photo ID and to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote. The bill now moves on to the U.S. Senate.

(SPRINGFIELD) According to a report prepared by Moody’s Analytics for the Illinois Commission on Government Forecasting & Accountability, Illinois’ economy is expected to underperform in the Midwest and the United States in the coming year. The forecast report says employment will be essentially unchanged and gross state product and income will increase less than elsewhere from the fourth quarter of 2025 to the fourth quarter of 2026. The report cited mounting pension obligations, a shrinking tax base, and outmigration as problems in Illinois.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs has announced nearly $1 million in grants to organizations providing services to Veterans and their families. All of the grant recipients are in northern Illinois, with nearly $543,000 of the more than $910,000 total, going to groups in Chicago. The Veterans Scratch-Off Lottery Ticket grant is a yearly competitive reimbursement grant offered quarterly to nonprofits and governmental organizations.

(SPRINGFIELD) Illinois lawmakers are proposing a change to the way state parks receive funding, one that could give taxpayers more bang for their buck, that’s according to those that sponsored the measure. Senate Bill 3016 would amend the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development Act to prioritize grants for park projects that go above and beyond federal accessibility standards, ensuring state funds serve the broadest range of children, including those with disabilities.
