(SPRINGFIELD) More than 15 businesses, manufacturing, and labor groups are asking the Illinois Commerce Commission to stop the state’s planned phaseout of natural gas. The coalition filed a petition with the ICC yesterday after a study by three state agencies found that Illinois could have electricity shortages as soon as 2029. The group says the state’s energy imbalance will only get worse if baseload generation sources are retired as currently mandated by state law.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Liquor Control Commission says licensees may notice some adjustments to workflows and processing timelines during the first 90 days of the agency’s new licensing and compliance portal. The ILCC recently launched its new system for license application, renewal, and compliance. ILCC officials say training resources, guidance materials, and technical support information are available around the clock at the ilcc.illinois.gov website.

(CHICAGO) A Venezuelan migrant is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of a church volunteer who repeatedly tried to help the non-American as he struggled with homelessness. CWB Chicago reports the 49 year old migrant fled to California after he allegedly killed the 34 year old volunteer last September. The migrant was brought back to Chicago by authorities earlier this month to face murder charges and more.

(INDIANAPOLIS) The Indiana House of Representatives has passed legislation to establish a Northwest Indiana Stadium Authority for the Chicago Bears. Indiana Senate Bill 27 was passed by a vote of 95 to 4 yesterday, calling for food and beverage taxes in Lake and Porter Counties and a hotel tax in Lake County, all in Indiana. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker is downplaying the move, saying yesterday that he believes Illinois lawmakers will look at a Bears pilot bill soon.
