(SPRINGFIELD) Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed two bills into law last Friday that will impact access to abortion procedures around the state. House Bill 3637 shields health care providers from discipline for providing abortion services that are lawful in Illinois and House Bill 3709 requires colleges and universities to offer contraception and abortion medication if they have an on-campus pharmacy and/or student health care center.

(MARION) A 16th Illinois family has now been reunited with their relative’s Purple Heart military honors. It was late last week that the State Treasurer’s Office returned Army Private Stephen J. Grabowski’s military medals to family members during a ceremony in Marion, all part of the Office’s Operation Purple Heart program. The Office, which handles unclaimed property, also returned Grabowski’s Bronze Star and other medals as well.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Citizens Utility Board is encouraging Ameren customers to attend one of two Illinois Commerce Commission forums this week to protest future rate hikes. CUB says Ameren’s $131.1 million rate increase plan in nearly triple what the utility can legally justify. ICC forums are Wednesday night in Springfield and Thursday night in East St. Louis.

(SPRINGFIELD) Today is the first day of classes at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, along with Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois, and Northern Illinois Universities. The fall semester opened a week ago today at Illinois State & Southern Illinois Universities.

(DU QUOIN) The 2025 Du Quoin State Fair had a great start this past weekend and it will continue for the next week, through Labor Day, Monday, September 1st. With the hours each day from 8:00 to midnight, it’s free admission for adults and children, but there is a fee to park. Today is Agriculture Youth Day with harness racing, the 4-H Food Challenge, and ITPA Tractor Pulling tonight on the Half Mile Track. Tomorrow is Republican Day on the fairgrounds with the Sunshine Picnic, more harness racing, Chris Owens in concert in the Free Entertainment Tent, and more ITPA Truck & Tractor Pulling tomorrow night. Then Wednesday is Senior Day with the annual Senior Prom, more harness racing, and other activities.
