(SPRINGFIELD) A proposed bill in the Illinois General Assembly is taking aim on handguns that can be modified for automatic fire, although gun rights advocates are opposed to the legislation, saying it would do very little to curb violent crime while restricting the rights of lawful gun owners. Supporters say the bill targets devices known as “Glock switches” that can convert a semi-automatic handgun into a fully automative firearm Opponents to the proposal say it will do nothing to deter crime or gun violence around the state.

(SPRINGFIELD) St. Patrick’s Day brings parades, parties, and an important message from IDOT, the Illinois State Police, and over 200 local law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois : “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High – Get A DUI.” Data from IDOT shows that on St. Patrick’s Day from 2020 to 2024, Illinois recorded over 3,300 crashes statewide, including 671 injury crashes, resulting in 10 fatal crashes, resulting in 10 fatalities involving alcohol or drugs. The special enforcement and awareness effort begins today and runs through March 23rd.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office is now accepting applications for its fourth annual summer job program. Approximately 120 paid positions are available for college, trade school, and graduate students, as well as graduating high school seniors who will be enrolled in college or trade school in the fall. A limited program is also available for 25 high school students ages 16 and older with all the positions offered across the Secretary of State’s 25 departments and at DMV facilities throughout the state. Applications are now being accepted at the Secretary of State’s website, at ilsos.gov.summerjobs where applicants must submit a resume, completed application, and a cover letter describing their interest in working at the Secretary of State’s Office, plus applicants can list up to three preferred work locations.

(DU QUOIN) Tickets go on sale this morning for country musician Russell Dickerson and his concert coming up later this year at the Du Quoin State Fair in southern Illinois. Dickerson is scheduled to take the grandstand stage on Saturday evening, September 5th. Tickets are on sale at the Ticketmaster website starting at 10:00 this morning.
