(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Freedom Caucus has filed articles of impeachment against Governor J.B. Pritzker, for what it says is his engaging in conduct that constitutes inciting violence. Part of the impeachment resolution in House Resolution 466, that the Illinois Freedom Caucus filed, includes quotes from the Governor’s State of the State speech on February 19th, where he characterized the Trump administration as using an authoritarian playbook and making reference to the Nazis. The resolution says Pritzker has issued inflammatory statements that incite violence against elected officials, citizens, and persons located in America and has failed to uphold the constitutional requirements of a Governor.

(CHICAGO) A state disaster proclamation has been declared for five upstate counties, for Boone, Cook, Kane, McHenry, and Will Counties. Issued yesterday, the proclamation now ensures state resources can be directed to support local response and recovery efforts while also helping to determine if the disaster qualifies for federal assistance in the days ahead.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office has announced $28 million in library and literacy grants, using combined state funds & federal dollars from the Library Services and Technology Act. The awards include more than $18 million to library systems around the state, more than $6.7 million in literacy grants, and nearly $50,000 to Veteran’s Homes.

(SPRINGFIELD) Former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar is being remembered for his eight consecutive years in office and for his bipartisanship. The Edgar Fellows Program at the University of Illinois Institute of Government & Public Affairs says that Governor Edgar made hundreds of millions of dollars in budget cuts, reduced the state government workforce, and eliminated millions of dollars in bill backlogs. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle & others involved in both state and federal government say the former Governor was someone who reinforced the importance of civility, compromise, and compassion.
