(CHICAGO) The state of Illinois will be defending its gun and ammunition magazine ban today in front of the Seventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in Chicago. The 2023 law was found unconstitutional last year by the Southern District of Illinois federal court. The U.S. Department of Justice will present oral arguments, joining the plaintiffs against the state.

(SPRINGFIELD) The unemployment rate in Illinois has dropped to its lowest point since July 2023, down to 4.4 percent in August, based on preliminary data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Compared to a year ago, nonfarm payroll increased by 5,900 jobs.

(NORMAL) With support from Illinois tax incentives, the Opmobility Company plans to establish their first Illinois facility in Normal to assemble bumpers for Rivian’s R2 electric vehicles, to be available for sale in 2026. The company says 81 new jobs will be created.

(O’FALLON) A downstate judge has sentenced the former second-in-command of the Bank of O’Fallon to five years and three months in prison after he pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges. The 70 year old St. Louis man also was ordered to pay $2.4 million in restitution.
