(CHICAGO) Governor J.B. Pritzker has joined Illinois’ congressional Democrats and several state & local officials to condemn what the Governor calls the federal government’s “illegal freeze” of $2.1 billion in taxpayer funding for Chicago Transit Authority projects. One of the projects by the federal review is the CTA Red Line Extension which has an estimated cost of $5.75 billion for 5.5 miles of track. By the way, these projects are all in Chicago, yet paid for by taxpayers from not only throughout Illinois, but all around the nation as well.
(CHICAGO) The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has announced that NANO Nuclear Energy Incorporated will establish a manufacturing research and development facility in the Chicago area. NANO Nuclear plans to invest more than $12 million with support from the Reimagining Energy & Vehicles in Illinois program. Facility personnel are expected to collaborate with the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana on a micro reactor energy system, one of the first in the nation.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Revenue is warning taxpayers about a new nationwide text message scam. The phishing scheme involves unsolicited messages that appear to come from state revenue or treasury agencies, claiming that a tax refund has been processed. Recipients are asked to provide or verify their personal banking information under the threat or losing a state refund. IDOR says unsolicited messages that claim to come from the agency should be ignored and considered to be totally fraudulent.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Office of the Illinois Fire Marshall, along with fire departments and organizations across Illinois, are teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association to highlight the importance of lithium-ion battery safety. The “Charge into Fire Safety” campaign focuses on proper buying, charging, and recycling. More than 25,000 lithium-ion battery fires were reported in the U.S. from 2017 to 2022 including several injuries.
