(SPRINGFIELD) Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs says he will keep pushing for nonprofit investment legislation in Springfield. Senate Bill 246, which was passed by both chambers of the General Assembly with bipartisan support earlier this year in May, would allow the Treasurer’s Office to set up an investment pool and electronic payment program for nonprofit organizations. The Governor vetoed the measure this past summer, saying it could allow extremist groups to exploit state services and resources in Illinois.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois House agrees with the Governor’s amendatory veto to the Equity for Every Family Act. While supporters call House Bill 2568 a modernization of Illinois parentage laws ensuring all families, including LGBTQ+ and assisted-reproduction families, are recognized and protected under state law, opponents of the plan, including the Illinois Family Institute, argue that the law “deliberately severs parenthood from biology, marriage, and Judeo-Christian tradition, in effect, redefining parenthood. The Senate must approve the Governor’s amendatory veto before the bill can be finalized.
(SPRINGFIELD) The second and final week of the fall Veto Session is scheduled for next week, Tuesday through Thursday, in Springfield. Among the many proposals drawing attention are several measures advancing elements of what Republicans are calling the broader tax-and-spend agenda of the Democrats. The list includes the controversial Transit Bill, to address a projected funding shortfall for systems like the CTA, Metra, and Pace, which could lead to drastic service cuts. Some estimate the proposed bailout bill could be as high as $1.5 billion for Chicago, while costing taxpayers throughout the State of Illinois.
(CHICAGO) Hundreds of manufacturing professionals and companies from around the state and Midwest are participating in the ASSEMBLY Show in Rosemont this week. The three day event opened this past Tuesday with education sessions focused on assembly line robots, artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, automated assembly, and more.
