(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois House of Representatives approved a bill along party lines last night, 70 to 37, that opponents say will continue the Governor’s push to put natural gas and coal power plants off the grid and force Illinois consumers to subsidize more solar & wind projects through more surcharges and taxes. Many say Senate Bill 25 will also add mandates and raise rates, but the plan would repeal the state’s ban on nuclear plant construction. The bill now moves to the State Senate for a vote. The fall veto session is slated to end today.
(TAYLORVILLE) Governor J.B. Pritzker signed an executive order yesterday while visiting a farm near Taylorville, declaring an agricultural trade crisis in Illinois. The order directs state agencies to take immediate action to enhance domestic markets for agricultural commodities and continue investment in mental health support for farm families. Pritzker said farmers are under attack by the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress.
(SPRINGFIELD) A jury has found a former Sangamon County Sheriff’s Deputy guilty of second degree murder for the fatal shooting of Sonya Massey at her Springfield home in July a year ago, in 2024. The verdict against Sean Grayson was announced yesterday at the Peoria County Courthouse after jury deliberations in the case began on Tuesday. The sentencing date will likely be set for sometime next month, in November.
(SPRINGFIELD) A digital forensics company has found that over half, 57%, of all scam losses in Illinois are now paid in cryptocurrency. The CNC Intelligence firm analyzed FBI data to reveal that crypto investment scams are the biggest drivers of those losses, costing Illinois residents $183 million last year. Those dealing in cryptocurrency should take precautions.
