(OLNEY) The City of Olney Water Department will be switching the disinfectant in the city’s distribution system this coming Monday (3/23/26) from combined chlorine to free chlorine. While this temporary switch is for maintenance purposes and is in conjunction with the city’s biannual hydrant flushing, residents may notice a stronger chlorine smell with the free chlorine being used. The City of Olney Water Department has scheduled April 6th to flush hydrants, that’s two weeks from Monday. The patience of all water customers is appreciated at this time.
