PROPOSED RULE CHANGES FOR MEAT PROCESSING

(BLOOMINGTON) The USDA is proposing new rules that would allow faster line speeds at pork and poultry processing facilities to provide greater efficiency & lower costs. The proposals would update outdated processing requirements under modern inspection systems and improve outdated limits by allowing establishments to operate at speeds supported by their processes, equipment, and food safety performance all at the same time with the Food Safety & Inspection Service maintaining full oversight. The USDA expects movement on the proposals by summer.
