(SPRINGFIELD) In the latest Illinois Crop Conditions Report, the majority of the state’s farmers are not in the fields as of yet this spring, however that’s not the case in the southern third of the state. With about 1% of the 2026 corn crop planted as of Sunday, nearly 2% of the intended soybean acreage has been planted along or south of a line along Interstate 70. Meanwhile, 85% of the state’s winter wheat crop is rated good to excellent. As many downstate farmers hit the fields, droughty soil conditions remain and many say more moisture is very much needed. We urge all area farmers and ag-related workers to think “safety first” while working this spring.
