REGULAR BI-MONTHLY MEETING LAST NIGHT

(OLNEY) The Olney City Council met last night in regular session. The Council : approved the payment of bills as presented : amended the City’s Tourism Budget to add $15,000 to the 2026 fireworks display in celebration of America’s 250th birthday : agreed to spend $1,600 for repair work at the Police Fire Range : approved the low bid for demolition work at 413 to 415 North Mill Street : agreed to close a portion of the north/south alley between South Elliott and South Morgan Streets and the CSX Railroad and East South Avenue : on 4 to 1 votes, followed the recommendation of the City’s Plan Commission, and approved rezoning ordinances for two properties from R-S to C-2, from Single-Family Residence District to Commercial District – that’s 4898, 4964, & vacant land along North Illinois Route 130 for Borgic Enterprises, Inc. and 4878, vacant land, & partially used land along North Illinois Route 130 for Kristin L. Snyder : unanimously agreed to rezone the property at 4751 East Radio Tower Lane from M-1 (Light- Industrial District) to R-1 (Single-Family Residence District) : discussed, but no action on prohibiting the sale of Kratom within Olney : and after an executive session to discuss real property and personnel, agreed to appoint Frank Bradley as the City of Olney’s new City Manager – also approved an ordinance to establish a wage package for the City’s 28-year employee : the Olney City Council’s next regular meeting will be Monday, January 26th, 2026.
