REGULAR BI-MONTHLY MEETING LAST WEEK

(NEWTON) The Newton City Council met in regular session last Tuesday night. The Council : approved the payment of all bills as presented – $64,907 in pre-paids and $285,716 in other accounts payable : approved the $22,884 purchase of lights from Wesco for lighting at the Pickleball Courts in Peterson Park – the money will be reimbursed to the City with ETCG grant funds : agreed to conduct an asbestos inspection and to seek bids for the demolition project at 311 South Jackson Street : agreed to authorize Clint Crossen’s letter of resignation, effective immediately : approved the Special Event Application submitted by Newton Elementary School for the Strong Boys / Strong Girls Run Event set for Thursday morning, May 21st, from 8:45 to 11:00 : heard updates from the Water and Wastewater Committee, Electric Committee, and Personnel Committee : and adjourned after a 35-minute closed session to discuss personnel : the next regular meeting for the Newton City Council is two weeks from tomorrow night, April 7th, 2026.
