(NEWTON) The Newton City Council met in regular session this past Tuesday night. The Council : approved the payment of bills as presented – $149,127 in accounts payable and $24,245 in pre-paid bills : approved the $2,800 cost to Overhead Door of Vincennes for the service, labor, and replacement of the 12 foot east garage door at City Hall : agreed to renew the IMUA annual membership for 2026 worth $4,316 : agreed to authorize the IMRF contribution rate of 7.76% for 2026 : approved the Symetra Insurance rates for 2026 : agreed to send two City employees, one each from the Electric and Park Departments, to a Pesticide Safety Education Program in January : reviewed reports from the City’s Committees on Personnel, Insurance, and Finance & Audit : and in personnel, accepted the resignation of Carson Brown with today, December 18th, being the last working day : and adjourned after a 29-minute closed session to discuss personnel : the Newton City Council’s next regular meeting will be January 6th, 2026.
