The Council : unanimously accepted the $200,000 bid submitted by Lucas Bolander for the sale of Surplus Public Real Estate : on a 5 to 1 vote, awarded the bid to mow Riverside Cemetery to Denny Noblit Mowing & Digging for $750 per mow : on a 5 to 1 vote, awarded the bid to mow Peterson Park to Denny Noblit Mowing & Digging for $450 per mow : on a 4 to 2 vote, awarded the bid to mow Earl Dufrain Park to Denny Noblit Mowing & Digging for $75 per mow : agreed to disburse $1,199 to Kent Greeson for a dumpster reimbursement application submitted for 607 Arca Street : approved the amended total project cost of $649,789 to the TIF Application & TIF Agreement submitted for 1107 South Van Buren Street : on a 5 to 1 vote, passed an ordinance to replace Chapter 11 Electric System 11-1-1 Service Charges : agreed to accept the resignation of city employee Tyler Weber : approved an operations agreement with Aqua Ops, LCC to serve as interim IEPA Certified Operators of the City’s Public Water System : agreed then to advertise for a City Water Plant Operator Department Head : agreed to re-hire Susie McCann as Manager of the Newton Aquatic Center will pay set at $18.50 per hour : agreed to advertise for lifeguard & summer maintenance workers with pay at $16.00 per hour : approved summer concession stand positions with pay at $15.00 per hour : approved the Watermain Replacement project between Hutton Drive and Homestead Subdivision : agreed to set the City Wide Cleanup dates for Friday and Saturday, May 15th and 16th : agreed to open the City’s Yard Waste Facility on April 18th with hours from 8:00 to 12 noon on the first and third Saturdays of each month : approved the purchase of 51 wooden utility poles for a total of $19,008 : and took no action, other to adjourn, after a 38-minute closed session to discuss potential litigation and personnel : the next regular meeting for the Newton City Council in Tuesday, April 21st, 2026.
