REGULAR MEETING EARLIER THIS WEEK

(NEWTON) The Newton City Council had a regularly scheduled meeting this past Tuesday night. The Council : approved the payment of all bills as presented – $89,907 in pre-paids and $103,181 in other a accounts payable : agreed to award the bid for the City’s 1999 Ford F550 Super Duty Bucket Truck to Petro Oil Production for $7,778 : on a 4 to 2 vote, approved a one-time $1,000 donation for an Eagle Mural to be painted by Stang Arts on the west side of the Farley Insurance Building : approved a demolition reimbursement application for 509 Stevens Street worth $14,667 : approved a one-time $5,654 stipend to Harley Gray for additional duties in the absence of the City’s Street Department Head : agreed to hire Billy Reese Jr. as a part-time Newton Police Officer with a start date of October 28th, 2025 : on a 2 to 4 vote, did not approve the TIF application submitted for 106 West Washington Street : approved a $2,500 dumpster reimbursement application for 206 North Jackson Street : on a 5 to 1 vote, authorized soliciting bids for the TIF funded watermain replacement project on East Reynolds Street : approved the $106,444 IML Risk Management Association’s proposal for the City of Newton’s property, liability, and workers compensation insurance coverage : and noted the next regular meeting for the Newton City Council set for November 4th, 2025.
