(NEWTON) The Jasper County School Board had its regular monthly meeting for December last night in Newton. The Board : approved the payment of all bills as presented : approved the Tax Levy for 2025 as presented : approved a resolution abating a portion of the tax levied for the year 2025 to pay debt service on the District’s General Obligation School Bonds, Series 2023 – the District will in turn use the existing funds to help pay for the bonds instead of adding the full amount to the Tax Levy : reviewed the 2025 Energy Transition Grant application, which will provide the District with $1,329,891 to help fund the building addition for the Elementary School in Newton : noted that Board members and District Administration attended the IASB Annual Conference, attending various seminars on growing your own teachers, on staffing shortages, on student development for social emotional learning, on school safety, and financial presentations : approved the first reading of unchanged updates for 20 policies : approved the first reading of changed updates for 38 policies : and in personnel – agreed to hire Sidney Mayberry, Sydney Thoele, Julia Whittler, and Taylor Gray as Tutors at the Newton Elementary School : the next regular monthly meeting for the Jasper County School Board of Education is set for January 19th, 2026.
