(NEWTON) The Jasper County School Board of Education had its regular monthly meeting for February last night in Newton. The Board : approved the payment of all bills as presented : amended the 2025-2026 School Calendar showing the District’s use of all emergency days and listing the last day of school for this school year as Friday, May 22nd, 2026 : approved a Co-op Agreement with the St. Thomas School for sports, including cross country, girls basketball, and girls softball for both the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years : approved an increase in sports official’s pay at Jasper School Junior High School for the 2026-2027 school year : heard a report on the winter weather closing procedures for the week of January 26th, 2026, plus the board also discussed policies for extra-curricular activity during school closing : after an executive session – approved the expulsion of a student for a period of two years, approved a resolution authorizing and directing Robbins Schwartz to file an Assessment Complaint regarding the Newton Power Station, and approved a resolution authorizing Intervention in Proceedings before the Jasper County Board of Review and Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board by legal counsel : and in personnel – accepted resignations from John Lidy as NCHS Biology & Agriculture Teacher, NCHS Assistant Football Coach, and FFA Assistant Advisor, and from Scott Larson as District Cook – agreed to hire Lori Zumbahlen as NCHS Special Education Teacher : the next regular meeting for the Jasper County School Board of Education will be March 16th, 2026, in Newton.
