REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING LAST NIGHT

(NEWTON) The Jasper County School Board of Education met last night in Newton for its regular monthly meeting in November. The Board : approved the payment of all District bills as presented : approved the bid package for a 21,000 square feet addition at the Newton Elementary Building which will lead to the transition of students from the Ste. Marie School to NES for the 2027-2028 school year – with the construction cost set at $7,892,323, the District’s owner’s cost of $948,034 with bring the total cost to $8,840,357 with construction of two Pre-K classrooms, eight other classrooms, a new cafeteria, office & resource space, and an IT office, to begin next spring : in other business, approved the posting of the Tax Levy for 2025 : agreed to let bids for District fuel : approved the Fiscal Year 2025 Annual Finance Report from Kemper Financial, showing no issues and the highest grade possible for a financial audit : noted that in the Illinois School Report Card, Newton Community High School, Jasper County Junior High School, and the Newton Elementary School were all rated as “Commendable” : and in personnel, accepted the resignation from District Paraprofessional Magela Snyder and agreed to hire Katlin Berry as a District Paraprofessional : the next regular monthly meeting for the Jasper County School Board will be December 16th, 2025.
