(NEWTON) The Newton City Council met in regular session this past Tuesday night. The Council : approved the payment of all bills as presented – $199,846 in pre-paids and $136,186 in other accounts payable : approved the online bid of $3,391 for the City’s used 2011 Ford Crown Victorian : approved a change of hire date for Justin Holmes and Tyler Plummer as full-time Newton City Police Officers to December 1st, 2025, both contingent on testing and evaluation requirements : agreed to authorize the City Attorney to proceed with legal action regarding the property at 205 East Harris Street : authorized the City Attorney and City Engineer to proceed with utility easements for electric distribution on East Curtis Street : agreed to give Christmas bonuses to all present full-time and part-time City employees who have worked at least three months and are currently working : approved the Special Event Liquor License Application submitted by St. Thomas for its Trivia Night Fundraiser on February 14th, 2026 : approved the Special Event Application submitted by Rauch’s Jewelry for its Christmas Traditions Event for the first three Friday nights in December : and adjourned after a 7-minute closed session to discuss potential litigation, real estate, and personnel : the Newton City Council’s next regularly scheduled meeting will be December 2nd, 2025.
