ROAD IMPROVEMENT WORK

(NEWTON) The Illinois Department of Transportation is today starting a patching and resurfacing project on Route 33 from the Effingham County line to West End Avenue in Newton. While lane closures are expected, flaggers will be used to direct traffic through the work zones, plus there will be up to three days where access to the Jasper County Junior High School and Newton Community High School may be restricted. The project is expected to be complete by September 1st. Motorists should be alert to signs & barricades.

(OLNEY/NEWTON) Meanwhile, road repair work continues along Illinois Route 130 from Olney northward to just past the Jasper County line. Delays are expected as that work will likely continue for the next several weeks in both Richland and Jasper Counties.

(OLNEY) The Richland County Highway Department has announced that weather permitting, it will replace a culvert on East Dundas Lane tomorrow morning, starting at 7:00. The section of East Dundas Lane, from the Clay County line to the Wakefield Road, will be closed for at least 24 hours to complete the project. Motorists should obey all signs and barricades due to this project starting tomorrow morning. Patience is appreciated.

(OLNEY) The City of Olney has this morning announced that beginning this Monday afternoon, Kitchell Avenue will be closed from York Street to Butler Street for needed street improvement work. Beginning tomorrow morning, on Tuesday, August 5th, Butler Street will be closed from Camp Avenue to Walnut Street for street work as well. For customers needing to access Hurn’s Lumber and Do It Center, they should follow the directional signs to the business during this street repair work. These partial road closures will be in effect until further notice. The City of Olney appreciates the patience of all.
