(MATTOON) in High School Cross Country yesterday –
the Cumberland Invitational was hosted by Lake Land College south of Mattoon
GIRLS
Newton finished second to Marshall, 59 to 32 as Fithian Oakwood was third at 68
then Fairfield (96), Dieterich (136), BHRA (148), and Casey-Westfield (153)
17 other teams were represented and their were 91 total runners
Newton was led by Layna Marshall in 5th place and Heather Bergbower is 6th place
teammates Avery Geier was 11th, Nora Street was 17th, and Josie Vogt was 20th
BOYS
Newton ended up in ninth place overall with 221 points
Herrin won the 27 team race, beating out second place Cumberland, 42 to 81
then St. Anthony (83), Paris (102), Heritage (141), Fairfield (171), and Dieterich (195)
there were 146 total runners in the boys race
Newton was led by Hayden Borgic in 26th place and Tanner Whitaker was 27th
the Eagles & Lady Eagles now prepare for the LIC Meet next Tuesday in Terre Haute
