(BLOOMINGTON) Starting today, this September 1st, Illinois farmers and others hauling agricultural commodities can obtain free harvest permits, allowing semi-trucks to exceed legal weight limits by up to 10% on gross, axle, and registered weights during the harvest season. While good through the end of the year, the permits are available exclusively thru the Illinois Department of Transportation website at webapps.dot.illinois.gov/ITAP. Along with updates and other requirements, the Illinois Farm Bureau offers resources including a harvest permit guide available online at the ilfb.org/harvestpermit website.
