(SPRINGFIELD) In yesterday’s USDA Illinois Crop Progress Report, the 2025 fall harvest continues to roll on with over six full days suitable for fieldwork last week around the state. With last week’s average temperatures above normal and precipitation at this time of the year below normal, the statewide average topsoil and subsoil moisture supplies are mostly short to very short. As of Sunday, Illinois’ corn crop in the dent stage hit 98% (compared to the 95% 5-year average) while mature corn was at 85% (compared to the 77% 5-year average), and corn harvested statewide reached 21% (compared to the 18% 5-year average). Soybeans dropping leaves were at 89% (compared to the 76% 5-year average) and soybeans harvested hit 21% (compared to the 14% 5-year average). Illinois’ winter wheat planting was at 12% (compared to the 8% 5-year average). Farmers throughout our downstate area report nearly 60% of the local soybeans and about 30% of the local corn has been harvested to date. We continue to remind farmers & all ag-related workers to think “safety first” while harvesting.
