(SPRINGFIELD) In yesterday’s USDA Illinois Crop Progress Report, the statewide average temperature last week was 76.5 degrees, nearly 3 (2.7) degrees above normal. The state’s average rainfall was just under a quarter-of-an-inch (0.22), almost three-quarters-of-an-inch (0.73) below normal. As of Sunday, corn silking was at 98% (compared to the 93% 5-year average), corn in the dough stage was at 68% (compared to the 5-year aveage of 66%), and corn denting was at 19% (compared to the 11% 5-year average). Soybeans blooming were at 92% (compared to the 93% 5-year average) and beans setting pods were at 76% (compared to the 5-year average of 75%). Both crops are still in mostly good to excellent condition, 63% for corn and 57% for soybeans. Let’s remembers “safety first” while working out there.
