(SPRINGFIELD) In this week’s USDA Illinois Crop Progress Report, the statewide corn harvest is underway. As of this past Sunday, 2% of the Illinois corn crop had been shelled. Last week’s precipitation averaged 0.21 inches around the state, 0.38 inches below normal. While mature corn was at 27% (compared to the 28% 5-year average), corn in the dough stage hit 98% (compared to the 95% 5-year average) and corn denting was at 87% (compared to the 80% 5-year average). Soybeans dropping leaves were at 36% (compared to the 16% 5-year average). Both crops are still in mostly good to excellent condition, 53% for corn and 54% for soybeans. With the downstate harvesting work underway, area farmers and other ag-related workers are reminded to think “safety first” during the fall 2025 harvest.
