(SPRINGFIELD) The USDA has announced new actions to increase the number of rural food animal veterinarians across the nation and to recruit new veterinarians to join the USDA in its role to protect American ranchers, animals, and the food supply. The Rural Veterinary Action Plan has been started in response to the growing shortage of veterinarians at both the USDA and throughout rural America. The USDA will hold listening sessions between now and October 1st to hear from stakeholders to determine what additional actions can be taken to reverse the shortage trends and recruit new veterinarians.
