Veterans Day Observances 2023

(Newton/Olney) Local residents are reminded of this year’s observances of Veterans Day 2023 in Jasper and Richland counties. The Veterans Day ceremony in Newton will begin at 10:20 this coming Saturday morning (11/11/2023) on the Jasper County Courthouse Square with various folks and groups taking part. The Veterans Day program in Olney will start with the annual parade with lineup at the Trustbank parking lot at 10:30, stepping off at 10:45, and moving west on Main Street to the Richland County Courthouse Lawn, where the ceremony will begin at 11:00, also with many participants. Area Veterans are then invited to eat free after the respective ceremonies at the Newton American Legion Post 20 and at the Olney VFW Post 4226. Everyone is encouraged to attend either ceremony to honor our local Veterans.

(Newton) Here are some reminders from the Newton American Legion Post 20 concerning the volunteer work schedule for Veterans Day 2023 in Jasper County. Volunteers are still needed this coming Friday Afternoon (11/10/2023) at 1:00pm to stake the Courthouse lawn in Newton. Then early this Saturday Morning (11/11/2023) at 6:00am to put the flags up on the Courthouse lawn, and then after the Veterans Day program later on in the afternoon at 4:00pm on Saturday (11/11/2023) to take the flags down and take them off of the poles. (Olney) The newly reformed Richland County Homefront is hosting it’s first ever Veterans Day 5k Run/Walk this Saturday Morning (11/11/2023), Veterans Dat 2023 in Olney, both starting and ending at the Olney Memorial VFW Post 4226 before the Veterans Day Parade. While the registration is now open online, at rchomefront.org, the onsite registration on Saturday Morning (11/11/2023) at the Olney VFW will begin at 7:00am with the Run/Walk to start at 8:00pm
