WEDNESDAY WEATHER DISCUSSION (07/31/2024)

(OLNEY/NEWTON) After another two to four inches of rain on average falling here in our downstate area over the past 24 hours, there’s unfortunately more rain in the forecast today through tomorrow and Friday as a stalled out frontal boundary continues to waiver up-and-down across Illinois. Meanwhile, in between the rain and thunderstorms, the high heat and humidity will make the next 48-plus hours miserable outdoors. Then as the rain chances come to an end Friday night with a dry weekend expected, the high heat conditions will hang around into the first half of next week. Stay tuned for weather updates and monitor a NOAA Weather Alert Radio for forecast details and possible warnings and/or alerts.

(NEWTON/OLNEY) With the storms that moved through our downstate area yesterday and last evening, the National Weather Service issued a total of thirteen Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for the counties of Richland, Jasper, Effingham, Clay, Crawford, Cumberland, Lawrence, Wabash, Edwards, & Wayne. Five of the warnings came yesterday morning with the other eight issued last evening. With several power outages in the area due to downed trees or limbs, most all of the electricity service has been restored. There was some area damage reported to some buildings and a lot of regional flooding, but no serious injuries.
