(MONTICELLO) in Boys High School Track yesterday –
there were 16 teams that competed at the Class 2A Sectional at Monticello
Mt. Zion edged out Olney by three points to win the event, 112 to 109
Tolono Unity was third at a distant 68 points, followed by host Monticello at 56
Effingham and St. Joseph-Ogden tied for fifth place each at 51.5 points
then Danville (49), Charleston (41), Salem (40), Urbana (27), Paris (25),
Decatur MacArthur (22), Decatur Eisenhower (15), Mt. Carmel (14), Mattoon (13)
Olney had eight athletes qualify for next weekend’s State Meet in eight of the eighteen events
Quaid Berger won both the 1600 meter run and the 3200 meter run
Gavyn Cothern won both the high jump and the long jump and was 3rd in the triple jump
Aiden Germak was 2nd in the 400 meter dash
Judah Dicks was 2nd in the 3200 meter run
Ian Pianfetti, Aiden Germak, Guillermo Tartalo, & Gavyn Cothern / 2nd / 400 meter relay
Maverick Cordell was 3rd in the pole vault
Gavin Root was 4th in the high jump and 6th in the triple jump

Newton hosted a Class 1A Sectional Meet with 18 teams taking part
Cumberland won the event by beating out second place Flora, 110 to 102.5
the host Eagles were third with 98 points
Vandalia was fourth at 51, followed by Teutopolis (50) and Casey-Westfield (42)
then Robinson (39), Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City (36), Neoga (35), St. Anthony (34),
Altamont (20), Oblong-Palestine-Hutsonville (18), Red Hill & Marshall (11),
Dieterich & Lawrenceville (10), Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg (9.5), Brownstown/St. Elmo (5)
