YESTERDAY’S USDA ILLINOIS CROP PROGRESS REPORT (04/23/2024)

(SPRINGFIELD) In yesterday’s USDA Illinois Crop Progress Report, there were 3.5 days suitable for fieldwork on average in Illinois last week. The statewide average temperature was 56.9 degrees last week, 2.4 degrees above normal. Illinois’ precipitation averaged 0.95 inches last week, equal to normal rainfall. Topsoil and subsoil moisture supplies are 79% and 65% adequate respectively, with 16% and 14% surplus respectively. As of Sunday, corn planted reached 11%, compared to the 5-year average of 10%. Soybeans planted was also at 11%, compared to the 5-year average of 6%. Winter wheat headed reached 11%, compared to the 5-year average of 5% and the winter wheat condition was at only 4% poor to very poor, 13% fair, 67% good, and 16% excellent. Local farmers still waiting on dry ground conditions to get into the fields, although some fertilizer and anhydrous ammonia are being applied.
