YESTERDAY’S USDA ILLINOIS CROP PROGRESS REPORT

(SPRINGFIELD) In yesterday’s USDA Illinois Crop Progress Report, there were 4.7 days suitable for fieldwork on average last week around the state. The statewide average temperature was 72.3 degrees last week, 4.5 degrees below normal. Illinois’ precipitation averaged 1.76 inches last week, 0.83 inches above normal. As of Sunday, corn silking around the state was at 80% (compared to the 5-year average of 70%) and corn in the dough stage hit 18% (compared to the 5-year average of 11%). Soybeans blooming was at 81% (compared to the 5-year average of 56%) and soybeans setting pods was at 42% (compared to the 5-year average of 21 %). The majority of the crops are in good to excellent condition, including 75% for corn and 76% for beans. Farmers are reminded to think “safety first” while working.
