YESTERDAY’S USDA ILLINOIS CROP PROGRESS REPORT

(SPRINGFIELD) In yesterday’s USDA Illinois Crop Progress Report, there were 4.6 days suitable for fieldwork on average around the state last week. The average temperature in Illinois last week was 66.5 degrees, 5.2 degrees above normal. The state’s precipitation averaged 1.99 inches last week, 1.24 inches above normal. As of Sunday, mature corn around the state was at 85% (compared to the 5-year average of 70%) and corn harvested hit 21% (compared to the 5-year average of 16%). Soybeans dropping leaves around Illinois was at 86% as of Sunday (compared to the 5-year average of 69%) and beans harvested was at 24% (compared to the 5-year average of 11%). The condition of both major crops is still mostly in good to excellent shape going into this week, 77% for corn and 72% for soybeans. The winter wheat planted as of Sunday around the state was at 11% (compared to the 5-year average of 8%). With farmers getting back into the fields this week, remember “safety first” out there.
