YESTERDAY’S USDA ILLINOIS CROP PROGRESS REPORT

(SPRINGFIELD) In yesterday’s USDA Illinois Crop Progress Report, there were 6.0 days suitable for fieldwork on average around the state last week. The statewide average temperature was 65.7 degrees last week, 6.3 degrees above normal. Illinois’ precipitation averaged 0.14 inches last week, 0.61 inches below normal. As of Sunday, corn mature in Illinois was at 94% (compared to the 5-year average of 82%) and corn harvested reached 32% (compared to the 5-year average of 30%). Soybeans dropping leaves around the state was at 90% (compared to the 5-year average of 83%) and soybeans harvested hit 42% (compared to the 5-year average of 28%). The crop conditions for both are still mostly good to excellent, albiet 77% for corn and 69% for soybeans. The statewide winter wheat planted was at 18% (compared to the 5-year average of 21%). Area farmers in our ten county downstate region report over a third of the soybeans and about a fifth of the corn has been harvested to date. Farmers and ag-related workers are reminded to think “safety first” during the fall harvest.
