(SPRINGFIELD) In yesterday’s USDA Illinois Wheat Crop Production Report : the area of wheat harvested statewide in 2024 is forecast at 680,000 acres, down 13% from the previous year – the winter wheat yield is forecast at 82 bushels per acre, down 5 bushels from 2023 – the wheat production is forecast at 55.8 million bushels, down 18% from a year ago – as of this week, between 5% and 10% of the state’s winter wheat has been harvested, although with this week’s dry weather conditions, the wheat harvest is expected to make big gains.
