2026 PRIMARY ELECTION INFORMATION

(NEWTON/OLNEY) A note that Early Voting for the upcoming General Primary Election begins tomorrow, on Thursday, February 5th, 2026, and continues through March 16th, the day before the Primary Election in Illinois. Registered voters can stop by their respective County Clerks offices, open weekdays, from 8:00 to 4:00. The General Primary Election is March 17th.

(OLNEY/NEWTON) Also a reminder, that Illinois does not require people to declare a party affiliation when registering to vote. Instead, a voter will state which party’s ballot they would like when they go to vote at the primary election. A voter can change which party’s ballot they pull for each primary election. Voters should remember that if they choose non-partisan when applying for a Vote-by-Mail ballot, they may not receive a ballot, as there may not be any non-partisan issues to vote on in the primary. Learn more on the State Board of Elections website or contact your local County Clerk’s Office in your county of residence.
