(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation has launched a new online submission option for statewide consumers to file complaints against financial institutions. It was last year in 2025 that Illinois consumers submitted 244,000 complaints to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, an increase of more than 120,000 from the previous year. The CFPB says complaints more than doubled nationwide last year, up to a 5.6 million total. 

(SPRINGFIELD) Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker is urging U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick to promptly approve Illinois’ Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment proposal, which would provide $1.04 billion from federal taxpayers to expand broadband access to more than 383,000 statewide residents. According to the Governor’s office, Illinois and California are the only two states that are awaiting approval. All the other state requests have been granted. 

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that the state will pay $15,000 of eligible student loan debt annually for up to 50 new civil engineers who graduate from Illinois schools. IDOT says payments will be capped at $60,000 and will begin once the engineer has worked at the agency for at least four years. The pilot program is the results of legislation recently approved to address a downward trend in engineering graduates in Illinois.  

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Capital Development Board says a $42.6 million state taxpayer-funded library project is on schedule at the University of Illinois Springfield. With the electrical, mechanical, and plumbing work starting last week at the UIS Library Learning Student Success Center, officials say the “substantial completion” timeframe is for next spring, 2027.
