(SPRINGFIELD) Today is the first day of the filing period for independents and new party candidates seeking state and federal offices in Illinois. Candidates have had since February 25th to collect signatures and have today thru May 25th to file at the Illinois State Board of Elections Office in Springfield. The 2026 Mid-Term election will be held Tuesday, November 3rd.
(SPRINGFIELD) A proposed law could allow child services to consider a child’s ginder identity and access to abortion in determining placement in the care of someone in a state outside of Illinois. While supported by the ACLU, saying the bill is important to its goals surrounding youth, family, and foster care, the proposal has drawn significant pushback from conservatives, especially during a recent State Senate hearing. Nicknamed the SECURE Act, House Bill 4966 has already been approved in the State House and is awaiting action in the State Senate.
(EAST ST. LOUIS) The Illinois State Police have announced the results of a violent crime suppression detail in St. Clair and Madison Counties, with a focus on East St. Louis and the surrounding Metro East communities. With assistance from multiple local law enforcement agencies, the State Police reported 23 arrests, 11 firearms seized, and 2 stolen vehicles recovered.
(SPRINGFIELD) With the weather warming up and statewide litter operations ramping up, the Illinois Department of Transportation is asking the public to be on the alert for maintenance crews picking up trash and other debris throughout the state. Everyone can do their part to keep Illinois roads clean by disposing of trash where it belongs and “Put a Lid on Litter.” Also be alert and obey all signs in and around road construction areas on highways throughout the state.
