(SPRINGFIELD) A new report says Illinois roads are not as bad as several other states around the nation. Data released by the Grigor Law Injury & Car Accident Lawyers Group, sourced from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, found that 80.4% of Illinois’ road network meets acceptable conditions. While the Land of Lincoln ranked 20th on the report’s list of states with the worst roads, it was far better than neighboring Missouri, which had the 16th worst roads, and Wisconsin with the 14th worst roads. However, neighboring Indiana was found to have the best roads in the country, with 97.4% of its network deemed to be in acceptable condition.
(SPRINGFIELD A bill expanding state taxpayer-funded tuition assistance for students in community college is heading to the Governor’s desk for his consideration and possible signature into law. House Bill 5135 removes the maximum reimbursement rate per credit hour for community colleges in Illinois. The State Senate approved the measure late last week after the State House approved the bill earlier this month, in the week before last.
(SPRINGFIELD) As boating season gets underway, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Illinois Conservation Police are urging people to wear life jackets when they are on any type of waterway and to only operate boats while sober. In fact, the State DNR offers free boating safety courses that review boating laws and regulations, as well as instruction on the safe and attentive operation of watercraft of any size or kind. Conservation Police and other local law enforcement agencies are on most Illinois waterways looking for those violating the rules.
