JASON PLUMMER’S AREA YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL PROGRAM EVENT SUCCESS 2024

(SPRINGFIELD) Twenty area schools represented by over 60 students were in Springfield this past Tuesday taking part in State Senator Jason Plummer’s Youth Advisory Council program. The students from the 55th Senatorial District not only toured the State Capitol complex and heard from lawmakers and other professionals involved in the legislative process, but they also held a mock committee hearing to discuss and debate a mock bill. During the hearing, the students not only took on the roles of lawmakers, but also that of lobbyists, concerned citizens, and even the Governor. Plummer, from Edwardsville, says the goal of the program is to not only help students grow to be more active and engaged citizens, but also to help develop the next generation of local and statewide leaders. While the YAC program is open to high school students throughout the 55th Senate District, the students this week represented schools from Olney/Richland County, Centralia, Sandoval, Odin, Carlyle, Highland, Vandalia, Brownstown, St. Elmo, Ramsey, Breese, and others.
