(SPRINGFIELD) As the summer season arrives, the abundance of America-grown produce will again be used for pie and dessert making. It was two years ago in 2024 that the U.S. grew $6.9 billion worth of seven popular fruits, vegetables, and tree nuts often used as the main ingredient in pie making, according to the USDA’s Economic Research Service. At the top was the U.S. apple crop which exceeded $2.9 billion in 2024, followed by blueberry production at $1.2 billion. The cash receipts for other pie ingredients included peaches at $926 million, cherries at $859 million, pecans at $468 million, pears at $301 million, and pumpkins at $274 million.
