(OLNEY/NEWTON) It’s every second Saturday in May that letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities, towns, and rural areas across America take part in the national Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, the largest one-day food drive in the United States. Led by letter carriers represented by the National Association of Letter Carriers (AFL-CIO), with help from rural letter carriers, other postal employees, and other volunteers, the drive has delivered more than 1.8 billion pounds of food the past 30 years. To donate, residents should place a box or bag of non-perishable food next to their mailbox before the mail is delivered this Saturday, May 9th. The letter carriers will collect the food donations, sort them, and deliver the items to local food banks, pantries, and shelters to help those in need of food. One out of every ten Americans face hunger every day.
