(SPRINGFIELD) The Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights is investigating 60 universities across the nation for antisemitism, including Northwestern University in upstate Evanston. The department says the institutions are receiving warnings due to allegedly not complying with Title IX obligations to protect Jewish students. The action comes days after U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement arrested a Columbia University student who led pro-Palestinian protest. More colleges may be added to the list next week.
(CHICAGO) To accommodate what they are calling unprecedented demand, the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office opened a REAL ID supercenter yesterday. The location is located in Chicago’s Loop and is offering a walk-in service exclusively for REAL IDs. It was last weekend that the agency introduced REAL ID Saturdays with extended hours at six DMV facilities and twelve others open for REAL ID walk-in services. As a result, over 10,000 REAL ID transactions were processed. The Office is also working on a possible website as well.
(CHICAGO) Two Chicago men who were wrongfully convicted of a 20o3 murder have been awarded a massive settlement from the city. John Fulton and Anthony Mitchell both spent 16 years behind bars for the murder. Their lawyers said they were forced into making false confessions by Chicago Police and Cook County prosecutors when they were teenagers. The Windy City settlement of a combined $120 million is one of the largest in America.
