(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has launched $25 million in taxpayer funding for the Equitable Energy Future Grants Program in an effort to grow the clean energy workforce in Illinois through a federal jobs act. Those in charge say the program supports renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in low income and disadvantaged communities to grow and diversify the clean energy ecosystem in Illinois. Grant funding can be used to support a variety of projects, including planning and project development, purchasing and leasing of land, equipment, staff, and more.
(CHICAGO) Illinois’ highest court is considering arguments over whether the state should be able to place lifetime restrictions on when and where a sex offender can and cannot live. The case recently heard by the Supreme Court involves a state resident who went to prison after being convicted of having improper relations with a 15 year old boy in 2003 and is seeking to remain living in his home, even though a children’s care center was built within 500 feet of his house since he was released from prison. A ruling is expected by year’s end.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs has started the “Operation Rising Spirit” campaign for 2023, which encourages statewide service organizations, schools, communities, and individuals to write letters of appreciation to Veterans residing at the Veterans’ homes in Anna, LaSalle, Manteno, Quincy, and Chicago. The program began in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic to support Veterans who were unable to visit with family and friends. To participate, notes can be sent directly to the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs offices in Springfield or go online to veterans.illinois.gov.
