INVESTIGATION CONTINUING AFTER WAYNE COUNTY HOUSE FIRE DEATH

(WAYNE CITY) A rural Wayne County man is dead after a fire swept through his home late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Authorities report firefighters were called to the home of 84 year old Clarence Bennett where his was found in an upstairs bedroom after the fire was extinguished and later was pronounced deceased at an area hospital. While the blaze is being investigated by the Illinois State Fire Marshall, no foul play is suspected at this time. Mutual aid was received by other firefighters from Hamilton and Jefferson Counties.
