(CHICAGO) The Triple A Motor Club says the average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Illinois has jumped 14 cents per gallon in one day. Yesterday’s average price was $4.67, up from $4.53 a gallon the day before on Wednesday. The national average also jumped up to $4.30.

(COLLINSVILLE) A tax return preparer who worked in St. Clair County has pleaded guilty to federal charges of making false statements to defraud the government. Prosecutors say the 38 year old woman falsified her personal income and her clients’ business expenses, resulting in outstanding tax obligations of more than $600,000 owed to the IRS & $48,000 owed to the state.

(SPRINGFIELD) A newly introduced measure in the Illinois General Assembly, aimed at expanding ballistic imaging technology, is drawing criticism from gun rights advocates, and others, who question both its effectiveness and intent. House Bill 5750 would create a grant program to expand ballistic detection and imaging systems through a partnership between the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Association of Police Chiefs. While the measure is now sitting before the House Rules Committee, supporters say it could help link shell casings to firearms, opponents say it is driven by financial motives more than public safety.

(SPRINGFIELD) Statewide residents may soon be required to register their e-bikes, motorized scooters, and other various modes of transport with the State DMV if a popular piece of legislation passes in Springfield. With a lot of bipartisan support, the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office says there would also be new regulations, age requirements, and fees associated with using the devices, however the bill does not include toy vehicles & mobility assistance devices. Passing thru the State Senate last month, the bill is scheduled for State House debate next week.
